Well, we just about paid for our fireworks this year with no real profit to show for all the work.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. I would've posted sooner but the celebrating part of my birthday was postponed due to a nasty tummy bug.. turst me, you don't want the details of how I spent this bday.I'm feeling much better today but decided against going out tonight as I'm sort of sore and still want to taken things slow.

We are blessed to be one of the few with power but the internet is hit n miss. The fireworks aren't selling at all but I can't blame folks.
We've got a ton of help so I was able to slice, blanch and freeze a couple of gallon bags of squash that somebody gave dad. My house is also very clean. It's nervous cleaning. Between worrying over the weather and the fact that we may loose a lot of money on fireworks this year.
We have the tent up. The heat is so bad [over 100f ]noboby is buying. Yesterday we lost power around 6pm causing much panic because my dad's house has almost no windows that open and he has to hook up to his machine overnight. around 9 ish we got a very bad storm lightning that looked like fireworks and really high wind gust. the tent came down. thankfully a lot of ablebodied and crazy family members came to help.Dad was thinking they'd just put bricks around the tent so it would be slightly safer instead they hauled it all into the shop.Fireworks are about a fourth of our summer income. We hold our breaths every year that they will sell well. When bad weather hits it's scarry for us on many levels. Like hail hitting the new crop and somebody dropping a lit match in the hay barn all in one.

Anyhow, the lights came on at 11pm. Many others still don't have power and they are calling for more bad  weather. I'm very grateful for my AC
I've been unable to clean much for a little over a week due to pain. I feeling slightly better but if I tackle all that needs doing I'm going to be in bed a day orn two after.this sucks. So FL distract me links, recs, new folks who should be my friends, vids, good news I might've skimmed over.

I'm no Spock [Doctor or Mister] but I've seen dangerously false "health tips"  and annoyingly inaccurate stuff about all kinds of science "liked" by friends on facebook. It's all bumpersticker wisdom and I should just ignore it; like I do the  right wing politics and the pictures of dogs sleeping with babies.

As I've already said, I am not Spock <g> so if I can spot the bad logic it's really very bad. I itch to comment but I know it's useless. No one is on facebook to think.
The whole clan was together to see one of my neices get her HS dipolma. CBitW was there with her mom and showing off new skills like waving hi and standing a bit. The thing her mom was most excited to show Aunt Missy though, was that she turn the pages of her story books all by herself.

Some time on facebook has convinced me that the metaphor for BtVS season 7 is "family reunions are hell" There are all these unknown 2nd cousins stacked like cordwood in the livingroom [who know all those family stories about you. even tho you can't remember which aunt's granddaughter they are.] Everyone's mommy, daddy and sibling  issues get an airing but fail to be resolved. The family bad girl takes the  2nd cousins out on the town. There's Caleb the recently born again uncle who spends the whole weekend telling everyone they are dirty sinners who are all going to die. And the 1st evil BiL who is so depressed he makes Caleb look cheery.  [The world will be better off if roaches take over. Pass the potato salad.] There are lots of in-laws and exes pretending [or not] to get along...

Title: Clever Girl
Author: Appomattoxco
Summary: This could be Buffy and Willow discusing Anya/Xander, or Willow and Xander discusing Anya/Giles in an AU where A/X didn't happen.

"You know what Anya's problem is, Willow?"

"Have you got all day?"

"Seriously. She's a chick, and I don't mean that in a retro bimbo way, it's like she's newly hatched and still wet. Not cute and fluffy-- just wobbly and kind of naked."

"Now I really feel bad."

"Yeah, so do I. The thing is, when a chick is wet like that you can kind of see that birds evolved from those things in Jurassic Park."

“Clever girl.” Willow shuddered.

“I think we’re going to have to deal though, because it’s obvious, she has imprinted on our guy.”

“Yeah.”

4 days ago my kindle froze. It had been on the charger for 3 hours the light was green but restarting wouldn't get it to leave the  wall paper screen. I called amazon and they walked me through restart again. When that didn't work they offered me a replacement no problem. I left the old one plugged in without really thinking about  it and overnight it started working. It doesn't seem to be holding a charge for more than a couple hours so it broken just not unusable. So here's my question do continue using the old one until it dies or deregister it and pass it on to my nephew with full disclosure?
I was re-reading Side Jobs the other day and afterwards I ran across some Twilight snark. It occured to me that the vampires in BtVS almost seem as silly as Edward & co when compared to the Dresden ones. When it comes to tragic forbidden love Thomas beats them all and the black and red courts are much scarrier than any Big Bad.  Even the Susan/Harry thing plays out more "really tragic" [ mostly bc of the kid imo.] than either B/S or B/A. Maybe because highschool has been taken out of the equation and all parties in DF are adults?
To [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison for the v gift to planned parenthood and to the anon person who gave me two month paid lj time.
One reason I miss my mom is she would introduce me as her daughter the Trekker in that puzzled but proud way I imagine a mom at a pride parade might have. She thought geek was cool long before it was just because it was me. She didn't get Trek , but I know she would've been an even bigger Spuffy fan than me with her Elvis and James Dean obsession and love of horror movies. she's adore BtVS.

A I'm sorry I couldn't always see then how much she loved and supported me. I posted before by the time I stopped being a teenaged girl she needed me to be one of her caretakers. This led to friction and looking back I think my teen and tweenties year old self could've handled it better. I often thought we hated each other when what we hated the situation; two people in cronic pain one on really strong drugs and the other on nothing but OTC sucking it up.

Sunday night I went to see Cabin in the Wood. I liked it  but when I got up from my seat i was in pain and it's still hanging on.
Eye doctor: I'm sorry but I think lined bifocals will work best for you.
Me: You really think I'm worried? I use a quad-cane how much older can a line on glasses make me look?

Also, I didn't get to dazzle him with my amazing atlernating wandering eyes because he has a son with spastic CP.

My dad moved I white rose a few years ago. What was left behind of the root regrew the blooms darkest burgandy I've ever seen. It must have been grafted.

Note from me: I was initially suspicious about this, since the notice below doesn't say how much of one's V-gift donation actually goes to Planned Parenthood. But I found the answer in the original post's comments: 100%. All the money you spend to shower your friends with Planned Parenthood v-gifts will go to Planned Parenthood.

For those of you who don't approve of Planned Parenthood, your response is easy: Don't buy one of these. None of your LJ subscription money goes to PP. If you'd rather donate an equivalent amount to an adoption charity, or another organization providing inexpensive or free medical assistance, please do; all charity organizations are hurting for funds in this economy.

Join us in standing up for reproductive health and education. Planned Parenthood, the organization that delivers reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide, has come under fire in the U.S. lately, with many politicians on both state and federal level seeking to end funding (and in a few cases succeeding).

During the month of May, you can send a specially designed Planned Parenthood vgift to your friends to help support this cause. (And if you need someone to send it to, [livejournal.com profile] frank is always happy to receive gifts!) There are three variations ($1, $5 and $10) for you to choose from, but they'd all look good on your profile when your friends know that you stand by something so important.

Thank you all for your help in our support for Planned Parenthood. This promotion ends June 1, 2012; LiveJournal is not affiliated with Parent Parenthood. For more information about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

If I'm going to get the CYA fic done I need a hand to hold. I have just over 1000 words and I don't know if they are crappy ones and I'm not sure where to go with it. It's already late but I'm determined to get it done and not have it half-assed. Anybody out there want to give what I have a read and crit for content? Let me bounce some story ideas off them?
donate to my cause

I won't be able to make it to the actual walk this year because I'm not well but please help out this good cause if you can. Thanks so much.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers sent our way. His blood pressure is too low and he still isn't himself but his lungs are clearer.

I got stuck in the rain last night without a jacket and my muscles are really stiff and sore today. I can't sit here for long so I'll post a better update another day.

Yikes!

I was supposed to post my story for the CYA ficathon yesterday. It's mostly finished but I need to add a couple scenes and get it beta'd. I got side tracked by life.
