Melissa's Big Adventure
Sep. 16th, 2003 10:03 pmI went to the supermarket for the first time in six weeks. No, before you ask, I don't live in the wilds of Alaska or outer mongolia. There's a Kroger's right across the highway but I can't drive and walking would be taking my life in my hands. So I have to wait for one of my half dozen relatives who live on the same property and can drive to remember I eat too. I could get food every day but I hate giving a list to someone if I don't have to. When I got there I felt like someone just off the boat from a third world nation. So many choices ;)
OMG I sound like a bitter old woman. If I mess with all the expectations of the medical community and live to be old I'll be impossible to live with.
Anyway I'm all stocked up just in case we get power outages this weekend.
I've been reading a lot lately. I just finished "The Chinese Chop" a mystery set in {and written in} post WWII N.Y.C. Aside from the fact that the detectives are women and one is Chinese/American the book has the feel of an old radio show. These people get hit over the head and knocked out as often as our favorite watcher.
The small details are what caught my interest. Most pop culture seems to skim over any economic or emotional adjustments made at that time. America kind of skimmed over a few years going from "49 strait to "55 and "Happy Days" This showed a recovering economy and a little resentment between the returning heroes and those who stayed home. Also it could be that I've spent to much time in fanfiction land but the detectives seem to me to have some UST going on.
