Luc, his sister Kate’s best friend, strode over to Kevin’s bedside. Kevin groaned when he realized she held nurse’s scan and this wasn’t a social visit. She said, “Lucky you, your recovery-partner. Doctor Brooks is meeting with your parents this morning. I told him we didn’t need to be introduced”
“Oh freaking great!” A babysitter to watch over his diet and exercise all the time. Who’ll wake him up to take pills and not let him read late. And there was no way Luc would let him get away with zip. At least Samantha, a redhead with toned body, had been susceptible to his charm sometimes.
Luc’s smile didn’t even dim. “You’re going to speed right through recovery, I can tell. Most guys take a week or so to even start hating me. We can skip right over that.”
Kevin said, “Isn’t there a rule against treating people you know?”
Luc looked at Kevin as if she knew what he’d thinking earlier, “Not here in the boonies. There are only so many licensed recovery-partners on the planet and I was free. Besides, your mom runs this rock. You had Sam last, right?”
“She had a name?” Kevin asked, “I just called her ‘Mistress of Pain’”
Luc laughed. “I’ll have to remember that! Ill buy her a new plaque for her desk. So I don’t have to explain your job.”
Kevin asked, “Don’t you mean to say ‘my job?’”
“No, yours is job description that’s important to remember,” Luc said
He said, “Your job is the bastard child of a nurse and a personal trained who were raised by drill sergeants. Just so we’re perfectly clear, what’s mine?”
Luc smirked evilly and her dimples appeared to ruin the effect. “Simple, sugar lump. Just like with Sam, when you were recovering from Grey’s, you do everything I say.”
Kevin groaned. “I really hate it when you and Kate call me sugar lump.”
“Why else would we do it?” Luc laughed.
