While I love to hear The writers speak on DVD commentaries and I've actually paid WAY too much money to hear actors speak at conventions. I like to let a show speak for itself.

I'm not the first Spuffy fan to think JM or Joss had a mioptic view of Spike but let's put some distance from the horse [livejournal.com profile] rahirah declared ded and beat something that's only dried bones now. Spock is my first fandom love. I think Nimoy is brilliant and without his skill we wouldn't have the same Spock. However, Nimoy didn't create Spock neither did Gene Roddenberry, Gene Coon or DC Fontana. He was made by ALL those people and more, editors and directors we don't even remember hand a hand in making Spock who he was.

I read both "I Am Not Spock" and "I Am Spock" Nimoy gives a lot of insight about who he is and who Spock is in those books. But he didn't watch the show until long after playing the role on TV. The last and most important word on who Spock is has to come from the viewer because we see the whole. Granted, no two people see it exactly the same but that's why bad or good it's still called art.
