Yesterday, my last BAPS shirt was reincarnated as a dust rag. It was a great night shirt for many years and I'll miss it. It was really very soft but became more holes than shirt. I also tossed my Starfleet windbreaker that was falling apart. The jacket was maroon with a flanel lining and only had a small sliver logo. My mom got it for me the year I joined Starfleet so it held up forever. It feels like the end of an era.
That and Jane entry today made me think. I had a friend who hated that her grandkids were allowed to drag around the blankets she spent hours knitting. She thought is was dissrepectful I think it's great when I hear a kid won't go to sleep without something I made. But I like when they wear out [from overuse.] the books and movies I give them too. When I give a gift to a child or an adult I try and pick something that will be enjoyed. I want it to be part of the person's life. Not a white elephant that must be kept.
In honor of the clothes meta I'm using the icon made from the Shoreleave pic of James. I was told in line he wouldn't sign personal photos like that but when he saw it he got wistful. He loved that [IMO ugly shirt.] and somebody [girlfriend? agent?] made him toss it :) BTW I was getting it signed for a friend because it's of him answering her question durring Q&A.
PS I Really need fluff STAT.
