With all the talk of sparkly vampires I thought I'd say something about books worth reading. A lot of this is repeated but I wrote the first recs when I'd only read one or two books. This is how they've held up.
Dark Hunter by Sherrilynn Kenyon I have this love/hate relationship with book series. I love them but I can never get my hands on them in order and I'm too impatient to wait. I think this began with the Nancy Drew when I was 8. So even though bless the author and/or publisher there's a correct reading order on her website and in the front of all the books. I'm still reading the Dark Hunter novels ass backwards. It means I sometime get a tad confused about secondary characters and/or spoiled for "future" events but it hasn't been too bad. 7 books so far and I've liked them all though some are better than others. There are times I read the the explaination for the vampire mythos in DH and still think "this is nuts" than dialogue happens and I'm happy again. One very possitive thing is that I like the two newest books best so she's getting better not stale. Devil May Cry & Acheron are tied for my favorites. B- over all with some books A- if you like Xena/BtVS you'll love this.
I've tried Sherrilynn Kenyon's other romances and SF and none of them really caught me. I am curious about Seven Seasons of Buffy.
Skolian Empire by Catherine Asaro If you like space opera read Catherine Asaro. With a background in physics and dance she writes both the space and the opera part right. I'm eating it up with a spoon. Big sweeping political intrigue and characters that are interesting on a personal level. She plays a lot with switching around the traditional M/F roles in romance The woman's the warrior and or the older. Some of her characters are empathic and I cheered over how much this did not help some of these couples communicate. Because of their biology they were drawn together but it only gave them something else they needed to work out. Pivatcy issues ec. plus knowing what somebody feels or thinks doesn't mean you know why so this can lead to more missunderstandings and not less. Take notes badfic writers! One warning there's some non-con or at least iffy sex in the Last Hawk but it does fit the story. My one complaint about the books is she isn't as nice about reading order as Kenyon. There's the oder they were published and the order they happen. Wiki has a list when the books take place but it seems some are happening at the same time. The Author herself has no list. some seem to stand alone fine others are really confusing.
